On the occasion of Teacher’s Day on the 1st of March 2021, Al-Ayen University announced the first edition of the AUIQ ranking and award to select the best seven Iraqi researchers. The scientific conditions for selecting and honoring them were set by an accredited scientific committee consisting of well-known academics from various Iraqi universities and with various specializations. The main goals of doing such were encouraging the researchers to publish in high quality journals, elevating the value of the quantity and quality of scientific research outcomes and assisting in spreading global knowledge, contributing in improving the scientific education locally, regionally and globally. Terms of participation have been set to only Iraqi citizens and employees at Iraqi institutions, who published in a slit scientific journal within Scopus or Clarivate, who have good scientific and research reputation and who prepared to attend the rewarding ceremony. The AIRx award winners were announced on 25th of February, 2021.
MoreAUIQ Award 2022 modified to be an accurate and unbiased ranking morethan award through a data-driven approach using a composite score (called AIRx-score), which is the sum of the standardized six log-transformed indicators. The data for such indicators gathered from reliable bibliometrics data sources, they are Web of Science (30%), Scopus (25%), Sci-Val (17%), Google Scholar (12%), ResearchGate (8%) and Publons (8%). Each of the AIRx-score indicators is a composite of inner log-transformed sub-indicators. The main threshold of being an award candidate is publishing at least (12) research papers in 2021, and having at least an H-index of (12) in Scopus and (6) in Web of Science. This condition is essential to bring highly qualified individual researchers. The adoption of such an innovative approach offered a reliable measure of a researcher's impact. Beyond statistical and conceptual considerations, authorship practices, especially in the case of multi-authored publications, give rise to significant problems that often go unnoticed. Thus, using a multi-criteria indicator will mitigate these weaknesses in standard bibliometric indices such as H-index and provide a more realistic measure of the impact of each individual researcher based on raw citations.
MoreIt is worth noting that the researchers might be aware about their well recognition or evaluation. Not all Iraqi researchers are interested in their appearance in the bibliographic databases. Therefore, AUIQ Award scheme emphasizes all scholars to be well recognized researchers by treating scientific research as a profession. Although the AIRx-score results seem fair, undesirable phenomena were not avoided, such as the rapid or sudden increase in scientific publications of some researchers. Therefore, the regulation of publications in the last four years became mendetory in AUIQ Award 2023 where the main threshold of being an AIRx candidate increased to (22) research papers instead of (12) and having at least an H-index of (17) in web of science instead of (6) while the researchers ranking based on AIRx-score.
MoreThe initiative awards by Al-Ayen Iraqi University (AUIQ) to support scientific research on national and international scales provides a unique opportunity for Iraqi researchers to compete with one another using academic metrics and raise awareness of the importance and vitality of scientific progress and novel research contributions.
